Pick the civ whose army you want to restyle. Give your Knights the look of Mamelukes,
your Champions the look of Berserks, your archers a whole new silhouette — then download an
installable mod. Most units share one graphic across all civs, so reskinning them
restyles that unit for everyone; a civ's unique units change only for it.
Click Change… on any unit to reskin it. Suggestions in the same class come first — flip to All units to pick anything.
Play with it
Install & play your mod
For the Windows PC version of Age of Empires II: DE. Building the mod runs entirely in your browser — no program to run. (Chrome/Edge let the page read the files it needs; on other browsers use the .bat option.)
Build the mod. Click ⬇ Build Mod and, when the browser asks, choose your
Age of Empires II: DE folder and allow read access. The page reads only the unit pictures it
needs and saves a ready mod file, FotA_YourCiv_aoe2rms.zip, to your Downloads.
Extract it. In your Downloads, right-click FotA_YourCiv_aoe2rms.zip →
Extract All. You get a FotA_YourCiv_aoe2rms folder — it's just picture files,
nothing to run.
Move the folder into the game. Open File Explorer, paste this into the address bar and
press Enter — %USERPROFILE%\Games\Age of Empires 2 DE — open your profile
folder (the long number = your Steam ID; if there are several, use the one you play), then
mods\local, and move the FotA_YourCiv_aoe2rms folder inside it.
Final path: …\<your-steam-id>\mods\local\FotA_YourCiv_aoe2rms\.
Enable it in-game. Launch Age of Empires II: DE → Mods →
Local → tick “YourCiv — Custom Units” → Apply changes
(restart if asked).
Play. Start a single-player / skirmish game and your reskinned units will appear.
(On a browser without folder access, use 🛠️ .bat installer instead: double-click the
downloaded .bat — if Windows shows “protected your PC”, click More info → Run anyway.)
Good to know
The mod is only picture files copied from your own game — graphics-only,
no stats or gameplay change, and fully reversible.
Most units share one graphic for every civ, so reskinning e.g. the Knight changes
the Knight for all civs. Unique units (and Monks/Kings/Trade Carts, which are per-culture) change more narrowly.
Best for single-player, custom scenarios and skirmish. Ranked multiplayer ignores local visual mods.
To uninstall, delete the FotA_YourCiv_aoe2rms folder from mods\local.
